Sales Chart JPN: Kekkaishi defeated everyone to win this week.

Week 21 - 27 May 2007

This week's number one comes back to DS. Kekkaishi: Karasumori Ayakashi Kidan sold a modest 40,741 last week. Another new DS game Shin Lucky * Star Moe Drill: Tabidachi comes in third with 30,397.

It's a reversal of last week where the DS game Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan! 2 is sandwiched between two Sony games. This week, it's two DS games doing the sandwiching. PSP's Bleach: Heat The Soul 4 comes in second place (37,764).

Last week's number one, Shining Wind, dropped to 12th place. But the biggest drop is Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan! 2 falling from 2nd to 27th. Odin Sphere dropped from 3rd to 23rd. So it looks like last week's top 3 are all out of the top 10.

Old games made up the top 10, Wii Sports with being the best selling 'old' game. That is probably Nintendo Japan's best move yet in Japan. It is selling in the truckloads over there. Poor them, the rest of the world gets it for free. Poor us, though, Japanese get most Wii games first.

Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion War is actually not doing too bad. It's fifth with another 26,019 sold. Unlike the other FF, Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings has dropped 10 places to 16th! I was expecting FFXII:RW to stay in the top 10 for a while longer than just 4 weeks. Maybe the Japanese doesn't like RTS much. But then the first European impression reckons it's too easy. Hmmm, look like FFXII:RW is stuck in limbo land right now.

Other game worthy of note is XBox 360's Forza Motorsport 2. It's a motor racing game, of course. It debuted at 11th spot. Quite impressive for an XBox game. It has been a long time for any XBox game to get so close to the top 10. But too bad, still not in the top 10 yet. Better luck next time. Because the only way to go from now on is down.

The position hasn't changed from last week, with Nintendo leading the way while Sony lacks behind with Microsoft dragging its half dead body across the floor. The figures stay around the same. DS outsold PSP by 4.8 to 1, and Wii outsold PS3 by over 6 to 1. PS3 yet again did not make 10,000 this week, and still behind PS2 in sales volume. That's the 3rd week in a running now. Bad for PS3, bad for Sony.
